Scrota for Mom is a unilateral performative project in which O Woomi Chung confesses her defloration to her mom who believes her daughter is still a virgin. Her mom who flew from South Korea to New York was told in the morning before the departure that she will be part of the show, not being told what it is about. And this morning, Chung had a private conversation with her mom about defloration, which had given her a sense of guilt for transgressing the socially emphasized value of ‘purity’ in South Korea.
During the performance, Chung’s mom watches her daughter cancelling her note that is burned on a screen, which goes “Umbilical cords have coiled in my brain. They untangle and sneak into my vagina. Now, the traces in the tunnel have left...”
